“Maybe we could get together and try out these new sheets”…What?!

@GirlontheProwl here, everyone has their awkward moments, but I have this thing I like to call “Awkward First Impressions”. I’m not sure what it is, but I often come across people who just don’t know how to filter themselves when they go in for the kill—and by that I mean when they ask me out. I understand that asking someone out can be nerve wracking, but honestly, I’m not an intimidating person and you don’t have to over compensate, or tell me things I don’t need to know for that matter. However, since some of my awkward first impressions tend to be very comically awkward, I figured what better thing to do than share the experiences. So folks, I present the first story of many in a series of awkward moments.

Merch Haul: Nair Hair Removal

@GirlontheProwl here, as we come to the close of another blissful summer of beaches and summer romances I’ve decided what better way to say goodbye than to review the best at home leg-waxing options. Now this summer, instead of attempting to go to professionals, which in hindsight may have been cheaper for me, I chose to test out a few of the easy wax options. Of course if you aren’t planning to buy more than one kind of waxing tool than this review may help you in choosing a cheaper alternative to salon waxing. The products that I used were all from the Nair collection and ranged from hard wax, roll-on, and even though it’s not technically a wax, a crème because why not? While these products come from the same company their level of what I like to call “success rates” differed largely. Continue reading

Celeste and Jesse Forever

C J forever@GirlontheProwl here, words like marriage, love, happiness, and forever are usually synonymous with one another, but do we really understand what they mean? Celeste and Jesse find out the hard way that “forever” does not come easy. This couple, headed towards divorce, struggle as they attempt to let go of one another. Bound by the love of a life long friendship, it is difficult for them to realize that beyond their marriage, beyond the concept of forever, even beyond one another, they must find themselves, grow up, and overcome their own inner struggles. #WTF Moments: On the Bus

Screen shot 2014-09-03 at 6.50.31 PM
@GirlontheProwl here, do you ever look back on a moment and replay something horrible that’s happened to you over and over? Or how about imagining what you would have/should have done in the moment, but didn’t? Yeah…me too. Here’s an incident that occurred a couple of months ago—I should probably warn you that this incident was rather repulsive—and it still sometimes haunts my thoughts in the early hours of the morning. As it were, this particular day seemed unusually long. I had just finished my last class of the day and was on a mission to get home as fast as possible before my legs gave out because my brain had finally decided to stop functioning. Continue reading

Puncture

Puncture-2011-movie-poster@GirlontheProwl here, I watch a lot of movies and I have to tell you I’m not always compelled to write a review about it. In the last couple of weeks I have watched maybe more than half a dozen movies and for the purpose of this blog I will most likely write a review for all of them—whether I’ve liked them or not. The problem is, I find it incredibly hard to write about things I don’t find genuinely interesting. Incidentally, on this unusually cool night in August I happened to come across an old, yet relatively new Chris Evans movie that screamed at me to just sit down and get this out—‘Puncture’. The movie debuted in 2011, but wasn’t as publicly known as Evans’ other, more widely received movie, ‘Captain America’. Perhaps it was the content, or the political nature of the film, but it didn’t sit in the box office for long, which is why I am taking the time to introduce this movie to those who have not seen it. And for those who have…I would like to relish in what I deem to be a purely and alarmingly informative film. Continue reading

Night Market (City Series)

@GirlontheProwl here…So I went to this local event that’s going on called the Surrey Night Market and as it were, it was the first time this event was being held in this particular city. For those of you who don’t know what a night market is it’s basically a bunch of vendors who pitch tents where you can go around buying food or whatever. They also do a talent showcase type thing…so basically it’s a glorified farmer’s market… without the fruit…and without the farmers! Anyway, I went with my siblings to check out this new place expecting it to be spectacular from all the reviews, but it lacked the luster I am used to. I guess the night market in Richmond has ruined me. I mean, there was food, and there were performances, but it was lacking in the merchant tents—and on top of it all we managed to circle the whole place in about ten minutes. There were so few places to buy cool trinkets or gadgets—and I know I probably wouldn’t have bought anything anyway, but hey, I still like to look!. Anyway I was disappointed, but I still managed to have a good time and I guess that’s what counts.

Here are what I found to be the market’s best food stalls:

@GirlontheProwl Hangup #1

@GirlontheProwl here…Do you ever find yourself in a position where your friends expect you to invite them places, but never invite you anywhere? I mean does that happen to you? Do you have people in your lives that never extend the invite first? Where all the plans that are made are only ever made if, and only if, you put the effort into it? And then if you don’t invite them somewhere they get upset about it…like what even? I don’t know if it’s just me, but this seems to be one of my hangups.

Affluenza

@GirlontheProwl here, just recently watched Affluenza and while Rotten Tomatoes may Affluenzahave only given it a score of 14%, I think it deserves and is worth so much more. The movie follows a group of individuals who are “filthy rich” and “morally bankrupt”. And while I may have borrowed those phrases straight from the movie, the portrayal of perfection in this film allows viewers to realize the enormity of false realities. The protagonist, thrown into a world of sex, drugs, and money, introduces us to a realm where even the privileged struggle with the outcomes of everyday social and political stigmas. Through the protagonist, Fisher Miller (Actor Ben Rosenfield), we see that the grass is not always greener on the other side and that money cannot solve all of life’s problems. As clichéd as that may sound, the truth is pretty sobering. Continue reading
