Puncture

Puncture-2011-movie-poster@GirlontheProwl here, I watch a lot of movies and I have to tell you I’m not always compelled to write a review about it. In the last couple of weeks I have watched maybe more than half a dozen movies and for the purpose of this blog I will most likely write a review for all of them—whether I’ve liked them or not. The problem is, I find it incredibly hard to write about things I don’t find genuinely interesting. Incidentally, on this unusually cool night in August I happened to come across an old, yet relatively new Chris Evans movie that screamed at me to just sit down and get this out—‘Puncture’. The movie debuted in 2011, but wasn’t as publicly known as Evans’ other, more widely received movie, ‘Captain America’. Perhaps it was the content, or the political nature of the film, but it didn’t sit in the box office for long, which is why I am taking the time to introduce this movie to those who have not seen it. And for those who have…I would like to relish in what I deem to be a purely and alarmingly informative film.

The movie follows the life of a small time, drug addicted lawyer advocating for the health and safety of those who stand on the frontlines of our health and medical services. The movie streamlines the struggles of nurses who have been accidentally pricked by used needles and who have as a result contracted life threatening diseases. It makes you question how this world can be so caught up in lucrative upkeep that it is willing to risk the health and safety of its citizens. Have we truly been reduced to so little? I dare you to take a stab at ‘Puncture’ and you’ll come to realize that in this dog eat dog world everything has become a capitalistic venture that is putting its consumers at risk for the sake of mere dollars. This movie forces you to contemplate whether you will stand back and watch it happen or if you will stand up for what you believe in—will you fight for what’s right?

This is a true story based on the work of one Michael David Weiss—“madman, genius, playboy, friend, fool, lawyer”… I don’t write these reviews to promote my opinions…not entirely anyway. By all means, watch it, don’t watch it—that choice is always yours, but if you choose not to watch this movie then you are doing yourself a disservice. Be informed…stay informed. I assure you, the genius and crippling realism won’t disappoint.
