Celeste and Jesse Forever

C J forever@GirlontheProwl here, words like marriage, love, happiness, and forever are usually synonymous with one another, but do we really understand what they mean? Celeste and Jesse find out the hard way that “forever” does not come easy. This couple, headed towards divorce, struggle as they attempt to let go of one another. Bound by the love of a life long friendship, it is difficult for them to realize that beyond their marriage, beyond the concept of forever, even beyond one another, they must find themselves, grow up, and overcome their own inner struggles.

“Forever” is a concept defined by infinities and promises, but claiming things will last forever does not mean that its hold is entirely boundless. Forever must be achieved and forever must be worked for. This movie does not condemn the notion of love or marriage, but focuses on the idea that to spend forever with someone does not mean you have to be married, or in love, instead it offers you forever in friendship. It teaches us that patience and understanding are key to life and that sometimes the effort you put into your relationships will make or break them.

So let the romantically incompatible and comical characters played by Andy Samberg and Rashida Jones lead you on a journey that perhaps you will find empowering, enlightening, or just plain entertaining.

This is not a love story…you’ve been warned.
